Asthma Australia and Melbourne Pollen, partner to help people with asthma and allergies to breathe better so they can live freely.

Nov. 15, 2025

Asthma is a respiratory condition that affects nearly 2.8 million Australians, with children being the most impacted. Asthma is responsible for at least one Australian death every day and contributes to more than 31,000 hospitalisations annually.

Despite the prevalence of asthma, it is often misunderstood, causing fear and anxiety for those living with the condition.

However, there is hope.

Asthma Australia has been the leading charity for people with asthma and their communities for over 60 years.

Pollen and thunderstorm asthma are significant environmental triggers, that can impact asthma management and respiratory wellbeing. Seasonal pollen peaks, particularly during spring and early summer, can lead to increased demand on hospital and health services due to surges in asthma-related hospitalisations.

Through a new partnership between Asthma Australia and Melbourne Pollen, we are excited to deliver timely and targeted health alerts that harness real-time pollen and air quality forecasts to support people with asthma and allergies.

By combining Melbourne Pollen's forecasting capabilities with Asthma Australia’s communication reach, this partnership will provide timely information on major environmental triggers. Together, we can improve asthma control and help prevent avoidable asthma hospitalisations.
