The CARISTA study is being conducted by The University of Melbourne in collaboration with The Royal Melbourne Hospital, The Alfred Hospital, Box Hill Hospital, Monash Health, Albury-Wodonga Health, Austin Hospital, Northern Hospital and Western Health, AirHealth and Queensland University of Technology to better understand the risk factors for severe seasonal hay fever, asthma and thunderstorm asthma.

We are looking for people aged 18 -70 years who have hay fever and are willing to participate in a study of hay fever and asthma symptoms. Participation is voluntary.

What we will ask of you:

• To come to an appointment at a participating hospital to:
  • Answer some questions about your Hay Fever and Asthma and the treatments you use
  • Have a breathing test
  • Have a blood test for allergies and asthma.
• To set you up so you can track your hay fever and asthma symptoms between October and December using your smartphone or computer.
• You can still participate in many aspects of the study if you don’t have a smartphone or computer.

This project has been reviewed and approved by The Royal Melbourne Hospital Human Research Ethics Committee: HREC/107011/MH-2024.
